Cambridge; commissioned in the Rifle Brigade, and before the S. Airican War
he had retired with the rank of Captain, but rejOined on the outbreak of that
war, and aw considerable service (Queen's Medal, 3 c lasps) . At the conclusion
of peace he retired with the rank of Major, and rejoined the Rifle Brigade, 1914,
being gazetted Captain, and soon afterwards promoted Major. In Oct. 1914, he
wa appointed to the command of a battalion of that regiment, and in July,
1915, took it to thc front. A year afterwards he was wounded. He resllmed
the command of his battalion at the front in Feb. 1917. Lt.-Colonel Pretor –
Pinney died on 2 .4.17, of wounds received four days previously.

of war Capt. Pridie he ld a temporary commission in the Ring's Own R. Lancs.
Rgt. He went to France in July, 1915, and after 18 months' service he was
invalided borne. In March, 1918, he was sent to Mesopotamia. The troopship
in which he was travelling was torpedoed, and after some considerable time in
the water he was picked up by a destroyer. His D.S.O. was awarded for gallantry
and devotion to duty in connection with operations to the north of Bagbdad
in April, 1918.
