The 197th Infantry Brigade never fought again in its original
form. For some months the three battalions provided cadres for
the training of newly arrived American units. But although the 6th
Battalion remained in the Brigade after amalgamation with the
12th Battalion
in
August, 1918, the nucleus of the 2nd/7th and
2nd/8th disappeared, the former going to England in July and
reappearing as the 24th Battalion, the latter being disbanded and its
personnel transferred mainly to the 1st/8th Battalion.
