THE 1ST BATTALION'S LAST BATTLE
Farther to the north the 29th Division had meanwhile been
following up its successes near Ypres between 28th September and
1ST BN.
2nd October. The 1st Battalion, after a few days' rest in the ramparts
and cellars of Ypres, moved into the line again at Ledeghem railway
station in expectation of being called upon to attack but returned to
Ypres on 10th October. Three days later, however, it entrained at
Manners Junction, near Ypres, and after a slow, cold and wet
journey by light railway arrived at Waterdamhoek (about a mile
south of Moorslede), whence it moved across country to assembly
